How "I" set out a trotline on the lake.

Tie one end of the trotline to the edge of a bank (big rock, partially or submerged tree). Run main line across bay. Stretch line tight but not too tight then attach the other end to the edge of a bank (may have to add additional lead line or another trotline to reach across). Add weights (rock or coffee can filled with concrete) about 10 feet from shore on both ends to weight line down so boats won’t hit it. I also use a weight in the center of the trotline. Small floats can be used in the middle to keep line off the bottom if needed. Now attach your droplines and bait to the swivels on the main line. Wait a couple of hours after dark or check in the morning.

When taking fish off the line. Use a landing net under the fish before you bring it out of the water. Don't try to hoist the fish out of the water. Let the landing net handle all the flopping and the weight of the fish or you might loose the fish. Have fun and be careful. Also obey your states fish and game rules.
